Judges Suck!! But some things make up for it….
I just got through watching the Olympics Gymnastics High Bar event final. Now, I’m no gymnastics expert but anyone will tell you I’l watch two drops of water sliding down a wall, so I’ve seen my fair share of competitions. Alexei Nemov just did the best routine I’ve ever seen – it gave me goosebumps. They gave him the lowest score of anyone competing – it was ridiculous. The audience booed for about 10 minutes, the commentators couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t believe it.
It was so bad the tournament president came down and advised the judges to look over their scores, eventually they did and he got a better score but it was still far too low and he ended up with no medal. In the end, he had to go out and quiet the fans down. The guy was a class act and he deserved a medal, probably gold. With all the contraversy over judging this Olympics, you’d think they could at least get something like this right with two bites at the cherry. Kinda ruins the whole thing…….
On the other hand Kelly Holmes won the 800m for women – I do follow athletics – and with the injuries she’s had and the number of times she’s come close, no one deserves a gold medal more. Mark Phelps also proved he was a class act by giving up his place on the relay team so one of his main rivals could win a gold. I don’t care what anyone says, he at least equalled Mark Spitz’s performance.
One thing sullies the Olympics and another thing elevates it. I just hope in the end the highs outweigh the lows.
