Back from NYC

Been a while – Jen arrived safely on Thursday and I took the day off Friday so we could relax for a day before going off to New York on Saturday. Independance Air impressed me, their flights were cheap, on time, had a free drinks service and their auto check-in was a breeze. Ryan Air could learn a thing or two back home – except with regards to the safety announcements. I hope they paid Mia Hamm a lot of money to do something that cheesy – it was very cringeworthy (is that even a word).

New York was great – Ye Olde Carlton Arms was a very interesting hotel, but it was quite noisy and very basic. Still it was just one night and it was a good experience. For all you other Irish people out there it’s situated right near one of the most Irish neighborhoods I’ve been in outside of Dublin. There were Irish people everywhwere, and we chose it completely by accident. The bar below the hotel was good craic and the bartender (not Irish – from the Outer Hebrides in fact) was really cool and got us completely hammered. Grey Goose vodka – thou art evil. Oh, and the Filet Mignon in the Banc Cafe down the road was amazing :)

The Sunday night was a different story altogether – I’d managed to find a cheap room in the Marriott Marquis, right in the middle of Time Square, so off we toddled to our new hotel – and quite a contrast form the first – 50 floors, 1200 rooms, normal walls, quiet – completely different. Unfortunately the revolveing restaurant on the top floor was closed for renovations :*(

We saw the Natural History Museum – the best part were the dinosaurs of course. We also wandered around Macy’s, Central Park, Saks, adn had a look at the usual collection of sights. Strangely enough I also got to see Monica Seles at Rockafeller centre doing some interviews – unexpected, but I guess it is the week of the US Open.

Anyways, all back safely now since Monday night and right back to business in work Small Business Accountants – long weekends suck like that – so much catching up to do. Jen is going to a few interviews today and tomorrow so hopefully something will come from that – *fingers crossed*.
