New LG Phone Related Content
The eagle-eyed among you will notice some new content on the right hand side of the page. The page is a guide (with appropriate caveat) on how to disable the confirmation sounds on the LG CU500 phone. While this may not sound like a big deal, it is probably the biggest drawback I can list about the phone now that I have been using it for some time and as I Googled around I realized I was not the only one. People notice the sounds, they wonder why I have not disabled them and then they cannot believe it is not configurable.
Well, neither could I but it is true nonetheless. Having eventually conquered the problem, I am amazed at how difficult it was – this should be a simple menu option, not something that took me several hours to figure out. Playing the individual sounds to figure out which were the offending ones was pretty painful, believe me. Even with the guide I think many will be reticent to go ahead with the process, it is not for the faint hearted or the non-technical.
Since I also figured out how to synch up with Outlook, I included that in the guide also. Hopefully people will find it useful, and my post on the Cingular forums should help spread the word (while it lasts). Personally I feel much better about my choice of phone now, though for a while there I was having my doubts.
