MySpace is Addictive

While I was waiting for Jen to get home from carousing with her workmates I started playing around with my page (space?) on MySpace.  The attraction to it has always puzzled me, I mean the interface is terrible, most of the pages look awful and you get a lot of Spam…..

However, after playing around a bit I think I can see the attraction – it is very easy to play around with, the picture uploader is very simple and they make it easy to integrate a nice slideshow for your pictures.  Blogging is a cinch and even video and audio embedding can be done without too much hassle.

I know I can do all these things on my own site, so it’s not attractive to me, but then I am not really their target demographic.  They want all the kids with no programming skills whatsoever to be able to these things too, and I guess it levels the playing field somewhat.  I uploaded some pictures, played with the layout a bit and suddenly an hour had gone by….

While Flickr has managed to supplant my homegrown picture efforts, I don’t think MySpace will ever be my main blog or website, but I’ll keep a presence there because of its popularity.  For similar reasons I have a Bebo page because that is the most popular service back in Ireland.
