Shamrock Fest My Arse

So, the ShamrockFest (or the Shamrock Sham as Ryan appropriately called it) was a non-starter for most because an unbelievable amount of people showed up. The wait just to get in the gate was 2 hours and by all accounts it was another hour to get a beer. In any case we were scared off to the Four Courts instead where a good time was had by all (in our section at least – there may have been dirty looks from elsewhere).

TV Issues Resolved

As I suspected, the problem with the output to the TV was too many conversions of the signal, once I plugged in an actual DVI cable into the TV, the Mac Mini sprang to life on the TV. So I now have DVI-D running at 1280 x 720 @ 60hz (essentially 720p HDTV resolution). Just in case anyone is wondering about the quality of the Apple converter here, I can pretty much definitively say that it was not the problem – it worked just fine when I plugged it into my LCD multi monitors and, having built up a collection of DVI-VGA converters over the years, I tried a few more – all with the same result.

TV Issues

It seems, from initial failures that the new Mini does not like my TV – now this could be because it is auto-detecting the TV incorrectly. It could also be that the Mini is currently hooked up by a standard VGA cable rather than a DVI cable – that is on order and should be here tomorrow. Either way I’m hoping I can fix the issue and use the Mini as my new media PC.

Minification

The Mac Mini is finally here! Well I say finally, but in reality it has not been that long. In fact, three days to get from China to here is pretty impressive (click for bigger image): The packaging is minimal, but you do get a handy little carrying handle (click = big): Just in case anyone was worried that the Commies in China might have something to do with the design of the thing rather than the Hippies in California…….

Scarily Complex Game

This Spore game – outlined by Will Wright at the Game Developers Conference is scary in terms of its scope – you start as a single cell organism and end up controlling entire planets of the creatures that evolved from your original creature – and you control everything from their personality to their internal organs I know that games rarely (if ever) live up to their promises at this kind of development stage, particularly something this far reaching but it’s still cool to see.

Chuck Norris Really Can Do Anything

Amazingly, the bearded one is responsible for a lot of the traffic (admittedly still not much) hitting my site at the moment. This all comes from my divide by zero post a little while ago – not exactly a long or involved post either. Check out this little table (from February) for proof: On a completely separate topic, since I’v been messing around with a lot of images, I’ve found that Paint .

Dr Dremo’s Psychotronic Prizes

For those of you who don’t know, we tend to frequent the Washington Psychotronic Film Society’s (extremely weird) screenings in Dr. Dremo’s on Tuesday nights. They screen what are usually the worst films known to man. They are so bad, they are good (if you know what I mean) and occasionally they show some brilliant animated shorts. In addition to the fine films, you get a ticket (for $2) that puts you in the hat to win the door prizes.

Now that is fast shipping…….

I have already received the Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. Considering that I ordered them less than 24 hours ago, that is pretty damn fast. So, if the Mini ships as fast and goes out on time I should have it by Monday/Tuesday – nice!! It’s Bonus Time!!

To celebrate my recent promotion (last week) and my bonus (arrived today), besides doing horribly boring things like paying off my Credit Cards and adding to my savings etc. I decided to get myself a little present (click the image for full-size)…… It seemed too much like fate that the new Intel models were launched today, especially after my previous post and the fact that we get a discount with Apple.

Damn Addictive

Bloody Qwyzzle – SO addictive. Level 58 so far, but they’re taking more and more time Oh, and Joe may have put up pictures, but I honestly don’t remember much of that night – if my hangover the next day was anything to go by though, I had lots of fun Share this: <div class="sd-content"> <ul> <li class="share-facebook"> <a rel="nofollow" data-shared="sharing-facebook-65" class="share-facebook sd-button share-icon no-text" href="https://comerford.cc/2006/02/25/damn-addictive/?share=facebook" target="_blank" title="Click to share on Facebook"><span></span><span class="sharing-screen-reader-text">Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)</span></a> </li> <li class="share-twitter"> <a rel="nofollow" data-shared="sharing-twitter-65" class="share-twitter sd-button share-icon no-text" href="https://comerford.
