Darth Tater Surveys His Kingdom

Perhaps this desk could do with a little tidying….. A quick inventory of what is piled on there: Darth Tater (of course) An old Athlon XP 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ A Sun Sparcstation 20 Several Dual Slot 1 Motherboards Some Slot 1 CPU’s 2 Floppy Drives Several Hard Disks A Power Strip An SGI Irix Install Set A notebook Random CD’s & Cables A stack of RAM Some poker chips The bad part is that this is what most people see when they walk by my door – so it’s definitely going on the to-do list….

Windows Update broke the keyboard….

I thought I would share this little anecdote in case anyone else runs into it. While talking my little brother through setting up wireless on my aunt’s new laptop (an IBM Thinkpad T40) he mentioned that some updates were installing. It was a Windows XP SP2 machine that had been fully patched a week before. I had set up the machine to ask before install but to download automatically so I figured they’d hit yes at some point – the machine had been working just fine until then In any case while in the Wireless config on the router getting the WEP key the keyboard stopped working.

Pictures & Pizza

First off – I hate pineapple on a pizza – it’s just plain wrong end of discussion – if it says so in a web comic then it must be true. In other news I’ve been doing a lot of picture uploading. In fact, I’ve used up 13% of my 2GB Flickr Pro limit this month. The latest pics are from Clarendon day which landed on Saturday 21st this year. The weather held up nicely, though it was a bit chilly toward the end.

Flock & Commentful

Recently I have been posting to my blog more often and getting more comments. I’ve also been commenting elsewhere and using Flickr quite a bit. It was becoming a pain to have to go to each site, log in, try to track comments and see replies. I’d heard about Flock from various places and Joe turned me on to commentful saying he was finding it handy for keeping track and since he does this blogging thing for a living, he should know So, I’ve taken the plunge on my home PC – we’ll give Flock a try and see how it goes.

SGR – The Bunsenmonster

The author of Scary Go Round that also brought us such classics as the Google Is Ruining Everything and the Krakkagar t-shirts posts about his latest creation….. I personally own most of his books (one signed, with original art), I read SGR religiously and I own the Google t-shirt mentioned above – if I ever interview there, do you think I should wear it? BLARRRG! BUNSENMONSTER Wow – two posts in one day………

Oh Dear….

I was looking through my logs and it seems that if you do a Google search for Jenny Comerford then this is the top link. Why does this matter you ask? Well, besides being the name of an aunt of mine on my Father’s side, that would also be the name Jenny would have should we get married and she decided to change her name (neither is very likely). Personally, I think the fact that it would finally give her an actual surname rather than the current collection of first names would be a good argument for it but I doubt she would agree.

Menage-a-what!?

Update (10/19/06): Joe informs me (see comments) that this “phone sex”/”menage-a-mobile phone” pic is now the most popular picture he’s ever put on Flickr (2300+ last time I looked) – by contrast the two phone version below has a paltry 23 views. There are some strange and twisted people out there From Four Courts on Saturday night (by Joe because my pictures were useless in low light), I thought I’d share the Issa Asad “highlight” of the evening.

Adding Technorati to WordPress

Turns out that this was far easier than I thought beacause for my surprise no credit check will be perform – I had looked at some tools that required custom fields and that meant messing with things on a level I was not prepared to commit to. Then I found Simple Tags – a plugin for WordPress that takes all the pain out of the process. I recommend it for all WordPress users.

Glen Hansard @ Iota

This dark and slightly blurry pic stems from the fact that camera phones are useless in low light. The gig was excellent and I like Iota as a venue – nice and small – perfect for some of the more mellow tunes that were performed. Plus it’s 2 blocks from my house – that may be influencing my opinion somewhat. Probably best known for his work in The Frames, he is now touring the US with his new band The Swell Season – Engage The Crowd last night was their first gig.

My Little Sis…….

Back in the day, my Aunt Jen fancied herself as a bit of a photographer and we were her favourite guinea pigs. This picture is of my little sister Gillian playing in a field in Wexford and it’s one of my favourites. Now, she’ll probably want to murder me for this but it’s only right that I post the next one too – not quite as high quality but funny as hell – wait until I send it to her friends on Bebo
